Mission
It is the mission of Film
Fest New Haven to celebrate independent films and videos of
exceptional quality from around the world, nurture filmmakers,
and entertain and enlighten an ever-growing audience.
History
Film Fest New Haven, Inc. was founded in 1995 by Wayne Buck,
Barbara Dinesen and Alice Thompson, business colleagues and
film fans, who recognized the needs of many who had difficulty
finding independently produced films that are creative, unusual,
informative and stimulating. We are a broadly focused, internationally
recognized, independent film festival, that takes place in
culturally-rich New Haven, Connecticut, home to Yale University.
FFNH exposes audiences to the work of new, innovative filmmakers
and provides those filmmakers with an opportunity to network
with each other and established industry professionals. Film
Fest New Haven is known for maximizing contact between filmmakers,
audiences and industry professionals in a film-friendly and
film-literate environment.
The independent film festival accepts works of any type (comedic,
dramatic, documentary, experimental), on any subject matter
and in any genre. The festival greatly encourages shorts as
well as feature length films or videos. FFNH also screens
films appropriate for children during its Young People's Program,
a successful new component of the Festival now in its second
year.
Screenings take place in a variety of venues, all in walking
distance of one another. Filmmakers enjoy extensive hospitality
on behalf of FFNH and can experience the architecture, museums,
theatres, art galleries and other cultural treasures of New
Haven when attending Film Fest.
